Dear Friends of Bates Academy,
I want to thank you for the
generous gift of $1800. We have 60 students,
30 in the Elementary Division and 30 in the Middle
Division, competing at the 2005 Academic Games
Super Tournament in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The
fee for two nights and three days was $180, so
we were able to reduce that to $150 at $30 per
student reduction.
As you have heard we are one of the top Academic
Games programs in Michigan. Our attendance at
the State Super Tournament is either the highest
or second highest school team. This grant has
been put to good use.
Our 12 teams with 5 students per team compete
in the seven hardest games. Very few schools
do this. These games are from four areas: Language
Arts-"Linguistic" and "Propaganda", Mathematics-"Adventurous
Equations" and "Adventurous On-Sets", Social
Studies-"Presidents" and "World Card", and Symbolic
Logic-"Wff 'N Proof". There are three packed
days of competition at the Super Tournament.
The students practice everyday at school and
study books and other study materials at home.
This started last September so you can see our
Team puts in a lot of effort.
We would again like to thank all the people involved
with the Friends of Bates Academy for your generous
support.
Sincerely,
Christopher Holstein
